Border Patrol Finds 71 Illegal Immigrants Living in a Trailer in South Texas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found 71 illegal immigrants on Thursday in Garceno, a border town between Laredo and McAllen, according to a social media post by Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings.

Hastings indicated they were victims of human smuggling and pointed to the lack of coronavirus precautions.

“Agents [discovered] 71 illegal aliens in a trailer home. The discovery was made in Garceno, Texas,” Hastings said. “Smugglers continue to cram large groups into deplorable conditions where [Personal Protective Equipment] and social distancing is impossible.”

Hastings attached two photographs to his tweet that depicted the individuals sitting outside the trailer where they were found.

In similar news, CBP put a stop to suspected human smuggling activity at the Laredo North Station on Thursday evening after a “concerned citizen” provided a tip to the agency.

“The incident began during the late evening of January 21, when agents responded to a report of multiple vehicles dropping off several individuals near a transportation lot on Union Pacific Boulevard,” CBP said in a press release.

Border patrol authorities reported the arrest of 48 illegal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Immigration has returned to the forefront of American politics as President Biden seeks to dial down some of the enforcement measures former President Trump instituted during his tenure.

The State of Texas has already sued the Biden administration for enacting a hiatus on deportations with limited exceptions.

Trump celebrated the construction of more than 450 miles of the border wall in the final days of his administration, a project that Biden halted the same day he became president.

Guatemalan authorities put a stop to a caravan of Honduran nationals hoping to present at the U.S. border amid more lax immigration policies under the new administration, according to a report by the Associated Press.
